Each year the ASME Student Design Challenge publishes a scenario, and teams compete in timed trials with robots they build themselves. I led a team of three for two years, building with Arduino and homemade parts.
- 2013: A remote inspection device for a nuclear plant contaminated with radiation. We built a four-wheel rover with a camera on a turret and a gripper.
- 2014: A remote-controlled UAV that carries a payload around a course and through gates. We built a tricopter with a controllable tail rotor and a cargo-drop latch.
For both robots, I converted a Sony PS2 controller into a 14-degree-of-freedom wireless controller with an Arduino.
